Renovations at Forest

Samy Eid, owner of Chickpea Hospitality, announced in his newsletter a strategic new chapter for Birmingham’s Forest as the restaurant celebrates its 10-year anniversary. Drawing on past success—particularly a transformative 2009 remodel of Phoenicia—Eid emphasizes the importance of periodic reinvestment to maintain competitiveness and avoid stagnation in the hospitality industry. Forest temporarily closed March 28 for a full remodel, with reopening planned for early May to align with its spring menu launch and patio season. The renovation will focus on both front- and back-of-house improvements, including upgraded kitchen equipment to enhance operational efficiency and empower culinary innovation. A key priority is employee investment, ensuring staff—especially leadership figures like Executive Chef Talia Clark and Managing Partner Nick Janutol—have the tools and environment needed to elevate the restaurant’s offerings. While physical and menu updates are planned, Eid stresses that Forest’s core identity—chef-driven cuisine, high-quality service, and warm atmosphere—will remain intact. Strategically, the relaunch aims to reposition Forest from a “hidden neighborhood gem” to a more prominent dining destination, overcoming location-based visibility challenges. With design partners engaged and targeted enhancements underway, the remodel is intended to move Forest from “a hidden gem” to “the spotlight.”
