More changes at Adam Merkel restaurants

Downtown Royal Oak’s restaurant scene has a new addition — and a familiar name behind it. Restaurateur Adam Merkel has introduced Bella Rose Italian at 100 S. Main St., replacing Bella Limone in the lower level of his multi-concept restaurant space at the corner of Main Street and 11 Mile Road. Rather than simply relocating Bella Limone, Merkel says Bella Rose represents a reimagining of the Italian concept, with a more relaxed atmosphere, seasonal dishes and a menu designed around approachable Italian dining. “Bella Limone gave us the opportunity to learn what our guests really connected with,” said Merkel in a news release. “Bella Rose Italian takes the best of that experience and builds on it.” The restaurant shares its first-floor space with Little Bella’s Pizza & Wine Bar, though the two concepts retain distinct identities. Bella Rose’s menu leans toward lighter, seasonal Italian fare, with an assortment of dishes intended for both sharing and full meals. Offerings include house-made pastas, roasted vegetables, garlic bread, Sicilian saganaki, steak frites, chicken limoncello and Chilean sea bass. Seafood, Italian-inspired entrées and smaller plates round out the selection. The beverage program includes wine by the glass and bottle, classic cocktails, Italian-inspired drinks and a selection of margaritas. Sean May, formerly of Adachi, oversees the cocktail program for both Bella Rose and Little Bella’s. Merkel developed the food and beverage programs with Cameron Mitchell Restaurants; the hospitality company associated with several high-profile restaurants and Merkel’s longtime professional relationship. The latest change is another chapter for the prominent downtown Royal Oak address. Before the current lineup, the space has housed concepts including Pearl’s Deep Dive, Bohemia and Pinky’s Rooftop.
