Two of Michigan’s celebrated culinary talents are joining forces this fall to open Angelo’s Fine Italian, a new Italian-American restaurant in the former City Kitchen space along Kercheval Avenue in Grosse Pointe. The restaurant is a collaboration between Jared Gadbaw, the Michelin-starred chef and owner of Oak & Reel, and Cory Barberio, whose work at San Morello has helped establish the Detroit restaurant as a destination for Italian dining. Angelo’s is the latest chapter in a friendship and professional partnership built on a shared passion for Italian food and hospitality. Both chefs have worked in some of the country’s respected kitchens before establishing themselves in Detroit’s culinary scene. Barberio said the goal is to create a restaurant where guests immediately feel at home. “Great restaurants have always been about bringing people together around a table,” Barberio said. “That’s what we’re aiming for at Angelo’s — a place where friends gather and families connect over food that feels both familiar and delicious.” The menu will focus on Italian-American classics, combining traditional flavors with the chefs’ experience and attention to detail. Guests can expect daily fresh-made pasta, red-sauce favorites and other dishes inspired by the enduring appeal of neighborhood Italian restaurants. The restaurant’s atmosphere will complement the menu, with a warm, polished and welcoming design intended to make Angelo’s suitable for everything from family dinners and celebrations to casual weeknight meals. Gadbaw and Barberio also plan to emphasize genuine hospitality and attentive service, with the restaurant designed to become a regular gathering place. Angelo’s Fine Italian is expected to open at the end of October. 16844 Kercheval Avenue, Grosse Pointe
